such a wake up call for me as a dad, who do I wanna be, what kind of parent do I wanna become for my kids, it's a refreshing way for me to reflect, thanks becky!

Thanks Franco! The comparison in my head was that my parents got to "disappear" for college and write letters to their parents and get into all sorts of shenanigans but with smartphones, they could never stop helicopter-ing :")

Love this format Becky. Felt like I read a little book, so refreshing, immersive, and full of rich interiority -- which is great since I had like 2.5 minutes this morning to catch a break before the day rushes onto me.

Nothing I’d rather be doing! I now spend all my baby free breaks on your Substack, got a year of catching up to do!

So relatable! Had to go through so much boundary lessons with my own parents, many of which they were fine with which can be frustrating to realize though others were hard too. It's funny how they train us and we train them and that cycle seems to go on forever. Really enjoyed reading this!

The edits you made were great. Really enjoyed reading this, and it’s so relatable. I like how you told multiple stories from different moment in time that all followed the same theme. And the text conversation with your brother at the end was great in giving an insight into how your brother thinks about it.

Love the "it can't get any worse than that" realization. That can be such a liberating place to be in! And excited to hear this " ✍🏼 Bite-sized creativity book update: wrote 1 chapter, edited 2 chapters"

Reading that bit about forced violin orchestras vs younger bro being allowed to quit whenever they want rly triggered me, cz i basically went thru the same. And the short while my brother had to do orchestra, he was allowed to cab to practice while i took 2 hrs of subway during my time: “he needs more time to study cz his grades are bad.”

Kudos to you for your mature reply, this one rly hit different!

This is sooo relatable Becky! Thank you for being so authentic and unapologetic. I struggle with your struggles. I hate the guilt. Love how you inserted dark humor.
