What a great use of your lunchtime energy and focus Rebecca. I also love the term "side quests." My life is full of these, but I never had a name for them. It's much fun to make small investments in a novel or whimsical direction. And sometimes those side quests can turn into opportunity highways.
Thanks so much for dropping by, Rick! And love that last bit about side quests turning into opportunity highways. Can't wait to hear those stories from you!
These are beautiful - the painting, the photos and the story!
I have memories of losing my kids in the Hong Kong Space museuam in Kowloon, just off the pier. We were booked into the Y on Salisbury Rd, next door to the Peninsula (biggest travel hack!), with a corner family suite that gave us a view over the harbour and all the light show at night.
OK. I should clarify. I was super jet-lagged, had left the kids with their Dad while I went back to bed. And HE lost his daughter! We ended up with a great piece of family tradition called the "Hong Kong Hug" because when he finally found her (on a digger her brothers had shoved her off), she gave him the biggest "where were you?" squeeze.
The "Hong Kong Hug" gave me goosebumps. That's so cute! Hope that one day if you revisit, nobody gets lost physically - just all lost in thought and wander.
Such a great concept to challenge ourselves with side quests at work rather than falling into the habit of eating at the desk and never really renewing! Love this piece.

This is such simple and powerful explanation. ‘I call them side quests, because they aren’t a must at any given day, but they level me up.’
Great story, thanks for sharing!
Game analogies/metaphors are so helpful! Thanks for dropping by, Kelly!
Just wow. Your writing is so refreshing! It inspires me to give myself scheduled treats like those✨💛
Thanks for stopping by. Yes, definitely treat yourself to a creative lunchtime!

Lunchtime side quests, I dig it.

It's still a challenge to go out (especially when I'm feeling "tired) but I always feel so refreshed afterwards. Thank you!
This came out great! I love that you shared your sketch with us! Great stuff.
Aw thanks so much Camilo!
