Hey Becky, enjoyed watching this, it is interesting how much more you get to know a person talking on video vs reading their writing. I’ve been pondering doing some kind of “vlog diary” type videos too and put them on Youtube and Substack, and I like the low-key way you did this. I feel pressure to shoot something that looks nice and is entertaining etc but at the end of the day I think my friends just want to know what I’m up to.
Anyway, I am on a similar path writing a book slowly while working and doing a variety of creative projects, I’m also in WoP 13, so am enjoying that too. Wish you the best and will be following along!
Aw thanks Dave! Do the video! Riverside made it so easy. I just edited the video by deleting the "ums" through text. I have Final Cut Pro too but I didn't want this Substack monthly updates to be a heavy lift.
What kind of book are you writing? So cool to see others on the same journey :) we'll stay in touch!
Cool, I just used Riverside for the first time last week, it wasn't my choosing, I was interviewed on someone's podcast and she was using it, but I didn't consider it to record my vlog. I will look into that more.
I'm writing a book about generalism, using the Octopus as a metaphor for creative people who like to do a variety of things at once. Working title is "My Life as an Octopus". It's part memoir, part my strategy for an Octopus-style portfolio career, and part "how to" for people that want to do the same.
I saw you're writing a book too on creativity, very cool! I feel like there's a theme of "bite sizing" going on, my book will talk about ways to scale down your "jobs" so you can do up to 8 of them. I'm also in a community with Anne Laure Le Cunff (Ness Labs) and she's writing a book called "Tiny Experiments".
