I remember asking you about this before, so I'm really happy you wrote about it! I didn't know your writing routine was inspired by your journalism roots. And it got me thinking how the way we write is inspired a lot by what we're used to doing. I'm still experimenting with mine, but I recently found out that I like to write similarly to how I do my weekly reviews.
This is so good! It fits so well because you DO do weekly reviews on your Substack. I didn't realize it was from journalism either until Michael pointed it out. We're so oblivious to our own ideas sometimes :)
This is very cool. I was trying something similar with my blog lately (although WOP might have disrupted this hah). Even keeping all my links in the same doc with multiple drafts. Good to know actual professionals do this, because I keep it one doc because it's just easiar haha
Open question: are you keeping to the weekly deadline with full-time work as well? I find the process (depending on the piece) can range from absorbing to all-consuming
This is so motivating! Thx for sharing your process.
Thanks for stopping by, Emily!
As a Melbournian it's easy to forget how good our coffee is!
I'm so jealous you get to have it forever!
Becky! So good. I especially loved: “All the other steps in the writing process act in service of this deadline”
Your writing group is fire 🔥 and I loved seeing the BTS of your process. 👏
Thanks Emma! Writing groups make all the difference. Thanks for stopping by
