Becky, I really enjoyed the practical advice and the conversational voice as you encourage the reader to jump into the action to help.

Funny thing is I did this once and helped out at a TEDx event, but I didn't have quite the experience I'd hoped. However, I'd totally try it again. I will let you know if I do!

oh no! But having put together a TEDx before, I can see how everything is so scrambly because people usually do this on a volunteer basis. A tip from me: see if the TEDx hosts a speaker reception and/or trainings for staff & speakers beforehand. Those are THE places to mingle because you won't get mixed up with the TEDx audience!

Aw thanks John! Networking events are often so dull, I still wonder how it's a thing...

I love how this piece turned out Becky. The storytelling is so good, and the message of finding creative/authentic/unconventional ways of opening doors to opportunity is awesome.

Also love the life updates! So on board :)

Thanks for sharing your experience! :D Networking seems scary when you don't know what you're bringing to the table -- we learn and realize how much we have to share, but only if we put ourselves in the heart of it :)

Catching up with you is lovely, especially to be able to be around a fellow creative in the hustle bustle of Hong Kong and living a slow life together 🥹💖

Yes definitely! And I've stopped showing up to networking events that are just industry events or just because. I'll go if I'm actively involved in it, or I received a personal invite from someone I know well.

Hehe looking forward to spending more slow time with you!!! Will host you soon :)

I love this story. It's inspiring. I've been kinda doing this in the Seattle Arts Scene. I think with a strong "why" behind it, this way of networking is incredibly powerful. I'm glad you are sharing your wisdom!
