"Food is a love language", indeed. My friend Lauren used to host a bunch of our childhood friends at her house for a recurring book club. It was mostly an excuse for us to enjoy a meal together and have deep convos. Sometimes we didn’t even read. Aside from my parents' cooking, her dining table is as close to "home on a plate" I'll get. Thanks for sparking that memory!

Oh man I love this so much. In Javanese we say "whether we eat or not, the important thing is we gather" (it sounds better in the native language, I promise) and this sounds exactly like your recurring "book" club :p Thanks for sharing that memory!

Yes, I'm so hungry after reading this, but feeling nourished at the same time. Your description of the food, good company, and nurturance provided by an intentionally prepared meal was such a well-crafted blend of flavors. This article is sitting with me very well! ha ha. What's for dessert?

I really love and enjoy reading this essay! Your writing is so visual, I feel like I’m in your flat with you!

Can totally relate to growing up eating around the TV lol

I love that you host your friends and feed them with your cooking :) and I’m intrigued by your ayam pop recipe! I gotta give it a try.

Loved the way this evolved into the published version, Rebecca!

I experience food as a love language as well. Different cooking styles and cuisines expressing love in myriad different ways.
